                                                                Flickr

This week our task was to make a Flickr account. I was extremely excited about this as it was something I've been meaning to do for some time now. Recently I've been getting into photography and many of my friends have been showing me the different ways to use Flickr. One feature of it that I find amazing is that you can type in the type of camera you use, the lens you use and the film and see exactly what the pictures can look like. I found this extremely helpful when buying my first film camera recently (Pentax mz-30).

As someone who is an avid user of social media I definitely see the advantages of visual social media. Personally I find it far more interesting and engaging.

I look forward to learning more about Flickr and using it as I develop my photography skills.

                                                                      Mashups

This week we were learning about web mashups. In class we discussed various examples such as community walk, wheel of food, live plasma, trends map and many more. We also discussed in groups what we felt our ideal web mashup would be which I wrote about briefly in the note taking wiki. For this weeks tutorial we learned how to visualise information using Google maps. This process involved downloading two spreadsheets containing information that we used to create a new  map. The instructions we were given were very straight forward do this was an easy enough task. I found that actually making a mashup was good as even though we learned about them in class I was still slightly confused about how they worked. By learning how to use one and creating something I think it really aided my learning. Below I have embedded a copy of the map I made.
